"A new EU regulation, allowing the use of mealworm powder in the food industry, has come into effect. This is essentially the consequence of the Western policy of sanctions against our country, which led to economic disruption, shutdowns in industries, and significant problems in agribusiness," he explained, TASS reported.
The EU has opted to replace products from local farmers with mealworm, now that it has approved insect powder to be used in bread, cheese, and pasta, Volodin added. "And nobody in Europe worries whether the consumption of insects can cause serious diseases," he argued.
Meanwhile in Russia, "only animals and fish are fed with larvae, insects, or worms," Volodin said as he invited his followers on Telegram to make their own conclusions.
