Journalist Tamer Mekdad and His Family Lost Their Lives in An Israeli Airstrike on Their Home in Gaza
Palestinian journalist Tamer Mekdad was killed in an Israeli airstrike on his home in the Tel al-Zaatar neighborhood in northern Gaza on Thursday, along with several family members, including his young daughter. His death follows the killing of Gaza photojournalist Fatima Hassouna on April 16, who was also killed alongside 10 family members in a bombing of their home in the al-Touffah neighborhood.

Hassouna, a multimedia graduate, had been documenting life in Gaza since the onset of Israel’s ongoing military operations. The Palestinian Journalists’ Protection Center condemned the attack, calling it a violation of international law, and the Gaza media office appealed to global press organizations to condemn the targeting of journalists in Gaza.

Hamas strongly denounced the intentional targeting of journalists, labeling it a breach of international law and part of Israel’s broader genocidal campaign. The resistance group highlighted that the deaths of over 200 Palestinian journalists, many killed with their families, are meant to suppress media coverage and prevent journalists from revealing the truth about the situation in Gaza. Hamas called for urgent international intervention and accountability for Israeli actions.
