A member of the Polish Sejm from the far-right Confederation party has triggered outrage after holding an altered Israeli flag, making sweeping criticism of the Israeli entity's crimes and comparing it to Nazi Germany.
The lawmaker, Konrad Berkowicz, brought an altered Israeli flag during a parliamentary session broadcast on the legislature’s official YouTube channel on April 14 and accused “Israel” of committing genocide in Gaza, Lebanon, and Iran.
Condemnation of genocide in Palestine
In a post on X, the MP stated, "Israel is committing genocide with particular cruelty right before our eyes. Israel is the new Third Reich, and its flag should look exactly like the flag of Germany from 1933-1945."
He added that the Israeli occupation is using "banned phosphorus bomb, which consumes oxygen from the air and leads to their death by suffocation. More. The smoke from this bomb gets into the lungs and burns them from the inside. They suffocate and burn from the inside at the same time. Tens of thousands of women and children. But if some child gets lucky and doesn't suffocate, the white phosphorus will stick to their cheek, to their little hand, and burn through the tissues down to the bone. It can't be extinguished, so they cut off the cheek, amputate the hand."
In response to a condemnation post by the Israeli embassy in Poland, Berkowicz argued: “I condemn your genocide in all of Palestine. We condemn what you are doing in Gaza, Lebanon, and Iran. I condemn your armed assault, starvation, pacification of the population, and the burning of innocent children with phosphorus.”
Growing international criticism extends beyond Poland
The Polish MP's comments come amid a broader pattern of political criticism directed at “Israel” across Europe, where several governments have recently voiced strong objections to its actions in the region.
In the United Kingdom, Chancellor Rachel Reeves described the US-led war involving “Israel” and Iran as a “folly,” warning of its global economic and political consequences. Her remarks reflected growing concern within parts of the British government over escalation and lack of strategic direction in the conflict.
Meanwhile, political tensions have also surfaced in Italy, where authorities moved to suspend a long-standing defense cooperation agreement with “Israel,” marking a notable shift in Rome’s position and signaling rising diplomatic friction over aggression in Gaza, Lebanon, and Iran.
