UNIFIL Warns Israeli Restrictions on Convoy Movements Threaten Southern Lebanon Operations
In a statement issued Wednesday, UNIFIL said the convoy, carrying military and civilian peacekeepers along with essential contractors, was halted by Israeli occupation forces just kilometers from its destination, despite prior coordination. While UN-marked vehicles were later allowed to proceed, contractors were forced to return to Beirut under security arrangements.

UNIFIL stressed that the incident is not isolated, citing similar disruptions involving roadblocks or revoked clearances that have impacted both peacekeepers and critical support personnel.

The mission warned that such restrictions could hinder the delivery of essential supplies, including food, fuel, and water, particularly to positions along the Blue Line, and risk undermining its operational sustainability.

It also cautioned that continued limitations may affect its ability to carry out mandated monitoring and reporting on violations of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.

UNIFIL called on Israeli occupation forces to “respect previously agreed arrangements” and uphold their obligations to ensure the safety, security, and freedom of movement of all peacekeeping personnel and logistical convoys.
