Quds Day in Iran: Street Has the Battlefield’s Back

This year’s Quds Day rallies became historic as the Israeli-American camp despite heavy bombardment of the capital and other cities failed to break the resistance of the Iranians. People once again turned out to, defying the aggression, show that they still support the Palestinian cause and the Islamic Republic in their country.

The mourning people of Iran, grieving the loss of the martyred Leader of the Revolution, took to the streets with fasting hearts in the holy month of Ramadan to create yet another historic scene of resilience and steadfastness in the history of the Islamic Revolution. In response to the message from Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei, the new supreme leader, Iranians marked this year’s Quds Day with even greater splendor, sending a clear message to the world: they stand firmly behind their leadership.

Throughout pivotal moments in history, the people of Iran have defended the ideals of the Islamic Revolution by taking to the streets, and once again, in the face of the most challenging times, they demonstrated to the world that the bond between the nation and the Islamic Republic is unbreakable. Neither chaos nor war can undermine this unity.

Exemplary courage under bombardment

On Quds Day this year, the Iranians made a splash, turning out even in larger numbers than previous years despite being under heavy psychological warfare and a brutal bombing campaign.

In the hours leading up to the Quds Day rally, the Israeli military issued warnings for residents of areas in Tehran close to the protest routes, including Tehran University and City Theater, urging them to leave these locations. However, the people, undeterred by these warnings, continued their march peacefully, chanting slogans that resonated with defiance even in the face of bombings in certain parts of Tehran.

The courage of Iranians on Quds Day astonished many analysts and observers worldwide, with some social media users noting that enemy bombs could not dissuade the Iranian people from taking to the streets. This stands in stark contrast to the millions of Israelis in the occupied territories, who flee to shelters at the sound of sirens. According to Hebrew media, thousands of settlers have transformed these relatively safe places into their homes, abandoning their residences in fear.

The presence of millions at the Quds Day rally served as a significant morale boost for officials and armed forces, empowering them to stand firm against enemy aggression. Over the past two weeks, Iranians demonstrated their resolve by gathering in city squares and streets, ensuring that adversaries and foreign-backed separatists could not exploit the wartime situation for their own agendas. Their epic turnout for Quds Day showcased their unwavering support.

When the public assembles in such large numbers, it becomes considerably more challenging for enemies. American leaders and the Israeli regime had initially factored in popular protests against the Islamic Republic before any aggression towards Iran. However, this scenario has also failed; the people are not only unyielding in the face of widespread attacks from aggressors but are also escalating their presence in the streets in defense of Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Despite internal differences, the Iranians have made it clear that they will not allow even an inch of their land to fall into the hands of foes, nor let criminals dictate their fate.

Officials joined the rallies

Perhaps the world thought that given the critical security conditions and assassination of officials and military commanders in day one of war, the officials this year will not join the marches. But this was wrong thinking. They took to the streets like ordinary people.

Contrary to the claims of Washington and Tel Aviv officials who suggested that Iranian leaders were hiding away and conducting meetings underground, officials demonstrated their defiance of adversaries with clenched fists and bold declarations, even amidst missile attacks, showing they fear no aggression from their enemies.

Although Iran is facing widespread aggression, the images of officials taking selfies with the people in the streets and sharing laughs together created a picture of a stable and calm country, strengthening the unity and solidarity between Iranians and their government. Some foreign media outlets, sharing photos of the Iranian president mingling with citizens without security details, subtly questioned whether any Western leaders would dare to behave the same way amid warfare.

The monumental presence of millions of Iranians during the Quds Day rally served as a clear message to adversaries, telling them that they will continue this fight until a decisive victory is achieved. Even if the conflict prolongs, the Iranian people pledge to defend their nation and the Islamic Republic, just as they have thwarted the enemy’s goals with nightly gatherings over the past two weeks.

This year’s Quds Day was a clear sign of Iran’s victory in the war and also firmness of the Islamic Republic, a political system having its roots deep in the people’s lives and faith, with no weapon capable of separating them from it.

For many, this year’s Quds Day, amid the American-Israeli bombings, transcended a mere rally; they walked this path not just for participation, but in response to their leader’s message, aiming to convey a clear and resolute message to the world.

This message resonates in the streets through shouts, slogans, and waves of flags: the Iranian people want the world to hear that the Israeli regime, which has occupied Palestine for decades and martyred many children, now seeks to complete its galley of atrocities with its brutal aggression against Iran. However, the brave people of Iran will not allow these criminals to extend their bloody hands into their land.

This Year’s Quds Day Rallies an Extension of Anti-war Demonstrations

Missile and drone waves by Iran and its allies in the resistance movements in the region have already in large numbers crossed air defenses of the US and Israeli regime to strike American and Israeli targets in the occupied territories and the Persian Gulf. A day before Quds Day was celebrated by Iranians across the country, the IRGC announced launching 41th wave of the missile and drone strikes under Operation True Promise 4 “in the memory of the martyrs of the Ramadan war” and on the eve of the Quds Day with “to Al-Quds (Jerusalem)” codename at American and Israeli targets. The firing included 10 missiles of various types, cluster-payload Khoramshahr-4 and Qadr, one-tone payload Kheybar Shekan and Fatah, and suicide drones. The combination of Iran’s operations in response to the enemies’ attacks show Tehran’s offensive power, and these operations coinciding this year with Quds Day are highly meaningful.

West afraid of Quds Day

A few days before Quds Day, some Western governments, including Britain, pushed to ban the event’s rallies in their countries, especially that it is coinciding with the American-Israeli military aggression against Iran as the biggest supporter of the Palestinian cause.

In this connection, the British Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood announced her approval of the Metropolitan Police’s request to ban the Quds Day march. The official official had earlier claimed that the decision was made to prevent “serious public disorder,” citing the extensive nature of the protests, the numerous counter-demonstrations, and the ongoing developments in the Middle East. She also stated that if a fixed gathering takes place, the police will be able to enforce strict restrictions.

In response to these limitations, Masoud Shajareh, head of the Islamic Human Rights Commission, which coordinates the Quds Day events in London, criticized the police and government decision, stating: “The Islamic Human Rights Commission strongly condemns the Metropolitan Police’s ban on the Quds Day march.”

He added that this year, the global Quds Day ceremony will take the form of a fixed gathering.

Previously, many European countries, including France and Germany, had also prevented anti-Israeli protests and marches, leading to expectations that law enforcement in these countries will similarly obstruct the street march for Quds Day this year.

Quds Day a showcase of anti-American and Israeli sentiments

Having in mind that this year’s Quds Day comes amid war against Iran, the marchers this year directed a major part of their chants against the policies of the US as the biggest partner and backer of the Israeli regime’s crimes.

Over the past two weeks, thousands of anti-war and rights activists held protests in London, condemning the Washington-Tel Aviv military aggression against Tehran. The British, Iranian and Muslim protesters, carrying signs and posters in Iran support and calling for end of bombing of Iran, turned the streets of London into anti-war scenes.

Therefore, this year’s rallies and marches for Quds Day in European countries align with anti-war and anti-American protests. In London, Chris Nineham, a senior director at the Britain’s largest anti-war campaign, known as the Stop the War Coalition, told reporters: “We are facing the most dangerous situation that the world has seen in decades. Trump and Netanyahu are committing crimes in Iran and sowing chaos. They are risking the spread of war throughout the Middle East and creating a state of instability and insecurity across the globe. What is shameful is that our government allows British bases to be used to further this chaos.”

“Today, thousands of us are here because the majority, the overwhelming majority of people in this country, believe that what is happening is sheer madness. They are completely opposed to Trump’s wars and believe that the UK government should have no role in them. This is the message that will be conveyed from this demonstration today,” Nineham continued.

This statement was delivered by Dr. Tedi Kholiludin, Chair of the Community Empowerment Foundation of the Institute for Social and Religious Studies (eLSA) in Semarang, during a testimony to Media ABI at the commemoration of International Quds Day in Semarang on Friday (March 13, 2026).

In his remarks, Tedi first expressed condolences over the passing of a figure widely recognized for actively fostering diplomatic relations with various countries.

"I would like to express my deepest condolences on the martyrdom of Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei, the spiritual leader of Iran. He built remarkable diplomatic relations with many countries, including Indonesia," he said.

According to Tedi, the passing of Ayatollah Khamenei represents a profound loss—not only for the people of Iran, but also for Muslims and for people around the world who advocate freedom, peace, and the independence of nations.

"This loss is certainly a loss not only for the Iranian people, but also for Muslims in particular, and for people across the world who aspire to freedom, peace, and independence," he stated.

Nevertheless, Tedi—who has long been known for his persistent advocacy of minority rights—believes that the martyrdom of Ayatollah Khamenei will not diminish the spirit of struggle among Muslims in confronting imperialism and colonialism, particularly in relation to the Palestinian cause.

"The martyrdom of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei will not extinguish the flame of resistance. It will not weaken the determination of Muslims to liberate Palestine from imperialism and colonialism," he said.

Tedi also described the commemoration of International Quds Day as a manifestation of global solidarity with the Palestinian struggle and with oppressed peoples.

"The Quds Day we are witnessing today is one manifestation of the power of the people standing under the same banner. It reflects solidarity for the independence of Palestine," he remarked.

He emphasized that Quds Day is not merely an annual agenda, but also an open space for people around the world to voice support for freedom and to reject all forms of oppression against nations.

"Quds Day is not merely an annual routine; it is a vision initiated by the great leader of the Iranian Revolution, Imam Khomeini, and continues today. It serves as an open space for anyone who seeks freedom in the world and independence for nations from all forms of oppression," he said.

Furthermore, the founder of eLSA described Quds Day and the solidarity expressed toward Palestine and other oppressed nations as a shared call for the international community.

"This represents global suffering—the shared suffering of humanity," he said.

For that reason, he argued, anyone who aspires to peace founded on justice and independence should take part in voicing support through various means.

"It can be through voices, writings, demonstrations, political policies, or through various diplomatic channels. All of these are efforts that make it possible for this struggle to ultimately achieve victory," Tedi stated.

He added that every effort made in the pursuit of justice will not be in vain.

"With God's permission, whatever efforts are made will never be in vain, and victory always remains possible," he concluded.

Imam Khomeini Described International Quds Day as Mobilization of Oppressed

The annual event is seen as an opportunity for freedom-seeking people across the world, regardless of faith, to voice their support for the cause of Palestine and vent their anger against the Apartheid regime of Israel.

Imam Khomeini, the late founder of the Islamic Republic once said in a historic message regarding the International Quds Day as following:

Quds Day is an Islamic day and an Islamic general mobilization day. I hope that this theme is a precursor to the formation of the “Party of the Oppressed” throughout the world.

And I hope that a party named “Party of the Oppressed” comes into being throughout the world and all the oppressed have a say in this party; and the problems that are present in the path of the oppressed are removed; and they rise up against the oppressors and the plunderers of both the East and the West; and no longer permit the oppressors to oppress the downtrodden of the world; and the call of Islam and the promise of Islam which is the rule of the oppressed over the oppressors and “inheritance of the earth” that is for the oppressed, be realized.

Until now, the oppressed were disunited and with disunity, nothing can be achieved. Now that a specimen of the bond of the oppressed has been realized in a Muslim homeland, this specimen must be realized at a more extensive level throughout the strata of human beings in history; and by the name of “Party of the Oppressed” which is the same as Hizbullah [Party of God], and which is in agreement with the will of God, the Blessed and Exalted, the oppressed must become the inheritors of the earth.

(Sahifeh- ye Imam, Vol 9, page 255)

Every year on the last Friday of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, worldwide rallies are held to commemorate the Palestinian people’s resistance against Israel and their struggles to liberate their territories which have been occupied by Israel for decades. Millions of pro-Palestinian demonstrators, including Muslims and non-Muslims, take to the streets to denounce Israel’s atrocities against the people of Palestine.

The significance of al-Quds Day is the revival of al-Quds and the Palestinian struggle for justice in the souls of Muslims and all the free people around the world. This day represents a focal point of unity around al-Quds for Muslims and all the free people of the world. It is a source of hope and a pledge to stand up to the most powerful and arrogant entities.

Al-Quds Day ultimately represents the true, non-traditional concept of Islam and expresses the authentic Prophetic model in its call for human liberation from all kinds of injustice. This day holds religious significance for the cause of Palestine, and it is for this reason that Imam Khomeini chose it to be on the last Friday of Ramadan - the holiest day in the holiest of months.

The impact of al-Quds Day increases year after year, whereby its power lies in encouraging all Muslims and free people of the world to join in the spirit and action of resistance.

The commemoration of this day proves that a public and legitimate right is not lost as time passes when it is claimed, for decades later, Palestinian liberation is a reality that has not died.

It is the spirit of al-Quds Day that is bearing the fruits witnessed today, which is an integrated Axis of Resistance armed with the slogan of al-Quds, which has centralized Palestine as its focal point.

International Quds Day, established in 1979 by Ruhollah Khomeini, remains a central platform for mobilizing global support for the Palestinian cause and opposition to the Israeli occupation.

The 2026 observance of Quds Day unfolded as tensions in West Asia remain high following recent confrontations involving the U.S. and Israel against the Islamic Republic of Iran. Across multiple countries, pro-Palestinian demonstrations highlighted growing public anger toward Israeli policies and reaffirmed support for the resistance front opposing Israeli aggression and U.S. intervention in the region.

Sheikh Ahmad Yusuf Yashi, the representative of Ibrahim Zakzaky in Bauchi, told the gathering that attempts by Washington and Tel Aviv to weaken the Islamic Republic had failed.

He said the emergence of new leadership after the martyrdom of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, proved that the Islamic Republic cannot be shaken through assassinations or military pressure.

Yashi added that Iran’s retaliatory strikes against the U.S. and Israel signal that the Zionist project is facing its final stages, urging Muslims worldwide to intensify prayers during the final days of the holy month of Ramadan for Iran’s victory.

Participants at the rally chanted slogans condemning U.S. and Israeli policies while voicing strong backing for the Palestinian struggle and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Chants including “Death to America,” “Death to Israel,” “Freedom for Palestine,” and “We support Iran” echoed through the streets as men, women, and children joined the march.

Massive crowds marched through major streets in Bauchi State, Nigeria, carrying Iranian and Palestinian flags.

Demonstrators displayed banners and portraits of prominent resistance figures.

The rally formed part of coordinated International Quds Day demonstrations held worldwide on the last Friday of Ramadan.

Local organizers described the turnout as one of the largest pro-Palestine mobilizations in northern Nigeria in recent years.

International Quds Day was first proclaimed in 1979 by Ruhollah Khomeini shortly after the victory of the Islamic Revolution. The initiative calls on Muslims and freedom-seeking people worldwide to oppose Israeli occupation and defend Palestinian rights.

Since then, Quds Day rallies have spread across Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas, serving as a global symbol of resistance against Israeli expansionism and U.S. domination in West Asia while reinforcing support for the Palestinian liberation struggle.
