Qatari LNG Cargo Uses Iran-Designated Route in Hormuz

According to media reports, the Qatari LNG carrier transited the strait with Iran’s permission, following a designated route set by Iranian authorities. The vessel passed without incident and is now heading toward international waters.

Three weeks ago, Tehran announced that maritime transit through the Strait of Hormuz would require Iranian approval after accusing the United States of violating a previous understanding.

The vessel’s passage marks the first Qatari LNG shipment to transit the strategic waterway since the new restrictions were introduced by Iran.

The satellite company Soar Atlas said the imagery shows destruction at the American fighter maintenance facility at al-Udeid, the largest U.S. military base in the Middle East. The company described the damage as resulting from a "successful Iranian missile operation."

On Tuesday, the same firm reported damage to a U.S. weapons storage facility in Bahrain.

The IRGC has hit multiple American bases across the region in recent days, including strikes on al-Udeid earlier this week that the Guards said targeted fighter maintenance centres and the base command post. The Iranian army has also launched drone strikes on U.S. positions in Jordan and Kuwait.

The footage referenced in the report was cited by RT.

The ministry said the measure does not apply to vessels operating under international maritime conventions.

It added that the precautionary measure was taken in coordination with the relevant security authorities, urging the public to comply with the directive and obtain updates only through official channels.

The United States launched a fresh round of strikes on Iranian military targets on Sunday, while Iran retaliated by targeting US bases and facilities across the Persian Gulf.

Mediators: Next Indirect Iran-US Talks to Resume After Funeral of Imam Khamenei

After indirect discussions in Doha on Wednesday, US President Donald Trump, along with mediators Qatar and Pakistan, signaled that diplomatic engagement remained on track despite recent military exchanges.

An interim understanding was reached to reopen the strategic Strait of Hormuz and halt hostilities, although key issues, including Iran’s peaceful nuclear program, remain to be addressed in future negotiations.

In a statement on Thursday, Pakistan said Qatari and Pakistani mediators held separate meetings with the Iranian and US delegations in Doha, describing the discussions as constructive.

Islamabad said both sides agreed to continue negotiations, with the next meeting expected to be scheduled as soon as possible following the funeral processions of Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei.

Imam Khamenei was martyred at the age of 86 at his residence in central Tehran on February 28, the first day of the war. Leadership responsibilities were subsequently assumed by his son, Ayatollah Sayyed Mojtaba Khamenei.

Public funeral ceremonies for Imam Khamenei will begin on Saturday, with his body lying in state at the major prayer complex in central Tehran before burial on July 9 near the shrine of Imam Reza [AS] in Mashhad, his birthplace.

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi, who headed Tehran’s delegation, said Wednesday’s talks concluded with an agreement to establish a communication channel to report and document any alleged violations of the memorandum reached between the two sides.

Tehran reiterated that there would be no direct negotiations with the United States in Doha.

Speaking before departing Washington on Wednesday, Trump said, “As far as things are going, the denuclearization of Iran is moving along well.”

“We hit them very hard... but we’re getting along very well,” he added.

According to a diplomatic source, the Doha discussions were held at the technical level and focused on implementing the memorandum reached previously at the Lake Lucerne Summit.

Iran rejected Trump’s earlier suggestion that the talks would be direct, with Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei stating that Tehran had “no plans for negotiations with the American side at any level over the coming days.”

Gharibabadi also said the talks addressed frozen Iranian assets, whose release Tehran considers an essential part of any lasting settlement.

He said officials reviewed the use of an initial $6 billion and agreed that necessary goods for Iran would be purchased and made available.

US envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff did not participate in the technical negotiations, although they met separately with Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

Since the Iran-US agreement was signed last month, tensions have continued in the Persian Gulf.

Tehran targeted a commercial vessel it said had deviated from its approved route through the Strait of Hormuz, after which US Central Command [CENTCOM] announced strikes on 10 Iranian military sites.

Iran later launched strikes against US bases in Kuwait and Bahrain, prompting reactions from the two Gulf states.

CENTCOM also announced it had hosted a regional security dialogue in Bahrain involving military officials from 12 countries, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the free flow of commerce through the Strait of Hormuz.

Responding on Thursday, Gharibabadi said the strategic waterway “is defined under Iran’s command, not CENTCOM.”

“A military summit in Bahrain cannot establish legal order and security for the Persian Gulf,” he said.

“The region’s security will be ensured through the end of interventions and the US withdrawal from the area, respect for countries’ sovereignty, and acceptance of new geopolitical realities—not under the military umbrella of America.”

Iran’s chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said on Tuesday that following a conflict of such magnitude, implementation challenges and disagreements were inevitable, “especially where the ‘Israeli’ regime is concerned.”

On the Lebanon front, clashes between “Israel” and Hezbollah have remained relatively limited.

Tehran has maintained that any comprehensive agreement must include an end to the conflict in Lebanon and the withdrawal of “Israeli” troops from southern Lebanese territory they continue to occupy.

Region Seeks Security Framework with Iran: Qatari PM

Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, who serves as both prime minister and foreign minister, told the Financial Times that Qatar has confirmed the strait will not close again. He said a direct communication channel between Washington and Tehran, agreed during the Bürgenstock talks in Switzerland, is essential to prevent obstacles to the reopening and to counter disinformation during the demining operation.

Qatar Energy will not lift its state of emergency until safe operations are guaranteed, he added.

The Qatari premier said the Swiss negotiations set the stage for talks toward a permanent agreement, though the process remains in its early stages. Any model for managing the Strait of Hormuz must be discussed with Iran, Oman and the Persian Gulf states, he stressed.

On Israel, he warned that it is overreacting to conflicts instead of de-escalating, and said a mechanism now exists to prevent flare-ups in Lebanon that includes ceasefire verification and requires coordination between Beirut, Washington, Tehran and the mediators.

The regional goal now is to create a new security framework between the countries of the region and Iran, he said.

Israeli Occupation of Lebanon Must End: Doha

Speaking in an interview with Al Jazeera on Monday, Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said Israel’s continued presence in Lebanese territory “must end” and stressed that Lebanon’s sovereignty “must be respected.”

He also denounced as “unacceptable” Israel’s killing of nearly 100 Lebanese over the past few days.

The Qatari prime minister further criticized Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu for fueling tensions, saying it was “not the first time” he had done so in the region.

The Tel Aviv regime has been furious over a temporary Tehran-Washington ceasefire that put a halt to the 40-day illegal US-Israeli war of aggression against Iran earlier this year.

On June 18, Iran and the US signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that calls for a permanent end to hostilities across all fronts, including Lebanon.

Since then, however, Israel has kept bombing Lebanon and occupying parts of the country’s south, where it has imposed a so-called “Yellow Line” — a coercive military buffer resembling the regime’s notorious control measures in the besieged Gaza Strip.

The occupation’s military escalated its strikes on Lebanon on Friday and Saturday, killing 105 people across the country.

Israeli attacks on Lebanon have killed more than 4,100 people and injured over 12,000 others since March 2, according to official Lebanese figures.

Additionally, Sheikh Mohammed urged caution regarding the talks between the United States and Iran, warning that “external circumstances” could still affect the negotiations despite the “will” demonstrated by both sides.

He said that the main objective of the Iran-US MoU is to stop the war and establish a framework for negotiations.

The deal, he added, creates an “institutional framework for the negotiating process” and requires both sides to “meet regularly” to resolve outstanding issues.

During the talks in Switzerland on Sunday and Monday, Iran and the US agreed to a roadmap towards a final deal within 60 days, while technical talks between lower-ranking officials will continue for the rest of the week.

The Qatari premier said the framework presented during the talks in Switzerland was “positive” and that technical discussions were continuing.

“The outcome of any agreement between Iran and the US would affect not only the two parties, but the region,” he noted.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Mohammed said that there is a “consensus” among the Persian Gulf Arab countries on pursuing dialogue with Iran, expressing hope that the current diplomatic momentum would also benefit Palestinians “through the achievement of a Palestinian state.”

"The total number of people injured in the accident at one of the plants in the Ras Laffan industrial area stands at 54,” Qatar’s Ministry of Interior wrote in a post published on the social media platform X on Sunday.

The post further said that the Internal Security Force’s Lekhwiya search-and-rescue team, together with the Civil Defense Department, is conducting operations to locate 18 missing people.

The ministry attributed the explosion to a "technical accident" and said there was no threat to public safety. It did not indicate whether the explosion had caused any damage to the plant, which supplies gas to the domestic market.

Residents in several districts of Doha reported unusual tremors on Sunday evening resembling an earthquake.

The Barzan gas facility has a capacity of 1.4 billion cubic feet per day [bcfd], and supplies pipeline gas to local industries and Qatar's power generation sector.

It also has capacity to produce ethane, condensate, liquefied petroleum gas and sulfur for domestic and export markets.
