According to reports, the US attacks late Thursday night and early Friday targeted several locations across Hormozgan, resulting in civilian casualties and damage to transportation infrastructure.

One of the heaviest attacks occurred along the Bandar Abbas–Lar communication route and in the Kahurestan area of Bandar Khamir County, where several bridges were struck and destroyed.

Following the destruction of one of the bridges, a passing vehicle fell from the damaged structure, killing seven people and injuring nine others.

In another attack targeting the Tappe Allah neighborhood of Bandar Abbas, one civilian was martyred and eight others were wounded.

The Bandar Abbas railroad junction was also targeted, leaving two people injured.

Field reports indicated that several explosions occurred in the vicinity of Masan village on Qeshm Island. Impacts from projectiles were also reported in areas of Bandar Lengeh and Sirik County.

The Hormozgan Governor’s Office announced that several major bridges in Bandar Khamir County had been damaged and urged residents to avoid using affected routes until further notice.

According to the provincial authorities, the damaged structures include the Gariveh Bridge on the Bandar Abbas–Bandar Khamir–Lar route, the bridge after Latidan village on the return route, two bridges on the Kahurestan–Lar route, an unfinished bridge on the Bandar Khamir–Keshar–Bandar Abbas road, and the Maru village bridge in Bandar Khamir County.

The governor’s office asked people to avoid damaged roads, use alternative routes, and keep access open for rescue teams, police forces, and firefighters to facilitate emergency operations.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Ministry of Health said the overall number of casualties from US attacks since the start of the July war has surpassed 400 wounded, with 38 Iranians martyred as of 6:30 am on July 17.

The ministry’s Public Relations Center chief said in a post on social media that among the casualties were 22 injured women, three martyred women, nine injured people under the age of 18, and one person under 18 who was martyred.
IRGC Destroys US Aircraft, Tankers in Jordan

The IRGC said in a statement on Friday that the operation was conducted in response to US attacks launched from bases in Jordan against civilian targets in southern Iran.

Addressing the Jordanian people, the IRGC said they were living in a land associated with the prophets and were among the nations closest to the Palestinian cause and most familiar with the suffering of the oppressed people of Gaza and the West Bank.

The statement noted that after Iran’s previous attack on the US Al Udeid base in Qatar, the US military had relocated the headquarters of its Central Command (CENTCOM) from Qatar to Al-Azraq in Jordan in an effort to move it away from the reach of Iranian retaliatory strikes.

The IRGC stated that, in addition to CENTCOM facilities, a Jordanian air base hosts dozens of US aerial refueling aircraft as well as F-35, F-15 and F-16 fighter jets, which have been used to launch air attacks against Palestinians, Iranians and Lebanese people.

According to the statement, the US military used its bases in Jordan the previous night to carry out war crimes against civilian targets in southern Iran, including several bridges, residential areas and a water pumping station in Bandar Abbas.

The IRGC said that, in response to those attacks, its forces carried out the 14th wave of Operation Nasr-2, targeting US fighter jets and aerial refueling aircraft stationed in Jordan in two separate strikes using several ballistic missiles and multiple drones.

It stated that the operation resulted in the destruction of several US refueling aircraft and fighter jets, while causing serious damage to a larger number of other aircraft.

The IRGC concluded its statement by calling on the Jordanian people and the country’s armed forces to act against the interests of the “aggressive and anti-Islam US,” and to remove the presence of “occupying Americans” from Jordan.

US Strikes Hit Civilian Infrastructure in Iran

According to Iran’s state television, attacks on two bridges in Hormozgan Province martyred three civilians and injured nine others. However, the Islamic Republic News Agency [IRNA], citing Hormozgan University of Medical Sciences, later reported that seven people were martyred in strikes on bridges in the city of Bandar Khamir.

State television also reported that three explosions occurred near Iran Shahr Airport in southeastern Iran, adding that at least one US projectile struck the airport.

Meanwhile, the Mehr News Agency reported that a railway junction station in Bandar Abbas was also hit, with two people reportedly injured. Iranian state media further stated that another US strike wounded one person in the coastal city of Bushehr.

Iran’s mission to the United Nations submitted a letter to the UN Security Council condemning the reported attacks. The letter argued that the deliberate targeting of civilian infrastructure violates international humanitarian law and described the strikes as war crimes.

The reported attacks come amid several days of US military operations in southern Iran. Iranian officials say they have responded by targeting US bases, military facilities and strategic sites across the region.

Iran has repeatedly maintained that US military bases and economic assets in the Gulf have been used to support attacks against Iran, including operations that it says have caused civilian casualties. Within this context, Tehran characterizes its strikes on such facilities as retaliatory actions against military operations originating from or supported by those bases.

Iranian officials have also continued to accuse both the United States and “Israel” of coordinating military pressure against the country.

IRGC Strikes US Command Center in Syria’s Al-Tanf in Retaliation for American Aggression

According to a statement issued by the IRG’s Public Relations Office, the Aerospace Force launched a surprise strike on a US special operations command center in the Al-Tanf area of Syria as part of the 11th wave of Operation Nasr 2.

The IRGC said the operation destroyed a radar system, several helicopters, and inflicted heavy casualties on US forces. It described the strike as retaliation for the deaths and injuries caused by US attacks on Iran, particularly the previous night’s strike in Iranshahr.

The statement also announced coordinated strikes against a US military base in Kuwait, where Iranian forces reportedly targeted a US radar installation, two major weapons depots, two HIMARS surface-to-surface missile launchers, and stored missiles. The IRGC described the operation as an initial response to what it called US crimes against civilian centers and communications personnel inside Iran.

The 12th wave of Operation Nasr 2 was dedicated to employees of Iran’s Rajaa Railway Company, whom the IRGC said had been affected by recent US attacks.

In the 13th wave of Operation Nasr 2, the IRGC announced strikes against US military assets in Oman, including a US naval radar on Little Quoin Island in the Strait of Hormuz and an aerial radar installation in Oman’s Ghanem region.

The operation was dedicated to the people of Khuzestan, Bushehr, Hormozgan, and Sistan and Baluchestan provinces, with the IRG reaffirming that retaliatory operations would continue as long as American attacks persist.

The IRGC also declared that the Strait of Hormuz remains under the control of its naval forces, warning that continued US aggression would be met with measures affecting maritime traffic.

According to the statement, Iran would not allow the export of oil or gas through the Strait of Hormuz while US attacks continue. The IRGC further asserted that American military operations have already caused a significant decline in regional energy production and exports, pledging to continue responding proportionately.

Separately, Iran’s Army [Artesh] announced the 11th phase of Operation Saegheh, targeting US military facilities in Bahrain in response to American attacks on Iran.

According to the military statement, “Arash” offensive drones struck a US helicopter and reconnaissance aircraft staging area at Al-Sakhir Air Base, including facilities associated with P-8 maritime patrol aircraft.

The Iranian military stressed that the country’s security and independence remain a red line and warned that any further hostile action by the United States would receive a swift and decisive response.

In another phase of Operation Saegheh, the Artesh announced drone strikes against US force staging areas in Kuwait using “Arash” unmanned aerial vehicles, reiterating that Iran would confront any pressure or aggression with full determination.

The latest military operations followed another wave of reported US attacks across several Iranian provinces.

Iranian officials said the United States struck the city of Veysian in Lorestan Province, while explosions were reported at Bandar Lengeh Port in Hormozgan Province.

Authorities in Bushehr Province also reported renewed US attacks, with Iranian state media saying one civilian was injured and that electrical infrastructure and a fuel storage tank at Iranshahr Airport sustained damage.

Iran’s Ministry of Energy further announced that US strikes damaged electricity transmission lines serving Bandar Abbas and surrounding areas.

Meanwhile, Iranian media reported that the death toll from US strikes on roads and bridges serving Bandar Khamir Port in Hormozgan Province had risen to seven people, with nine others injured after attacks targeting infrastructure linked to the port.

The reported casualties come amid an expanding US military campaign targeting civilian infrastructure, military installations, and strategic sites throughout Iran.

Iranian military officials have vowed that any further American aggression will be met with immediate and proportional retaliation, while reiterating that continued escalation could have significant consequences for US military assets across the region and for maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz.

Military Spokesperson: All Regional Infrastructure to be Destroyed if Iran's Hit

Ebrahim Zolfaghari, spokesman for the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Command, said the "criminal America" continues its "lawlessness and destabilisation" of the region. He stressed that under no circumstances would Iran allow the United States, as a foreign and extra-regional power, to interfere in the Strait of Hormuz. "This is Iran's unbreakable red line," he said.

He said that if the recent threats by the "empty and hollow" U.S. president to target Iranian infrastructure are carried out, "then everything that, owing to Iran's restraint, still remains — meaning all infrastructure in the region — will be crushed under the steel blows of the powerful armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, such that no trace of it shall remain, as if it never existed."

Zolfaghari warned that "the foolish enemy should know that the moment of epic for us is not a moment of avoidance. What comes from the armed forces of Iran is not an equal strike, it is a superior strike — strikes that will be more severe, more extensive and more devastating than ever."

The Sovereignty of Hormuz and the Limits of Empire

Why the Strait of Hormuz Has Become a Test of Law, Power, and Western Double Standards

The Strait of Hormuz is more than a name on a map. It is the narrow waterway through which nearly a fifth of the world’s oil flows, its pulse felt across distant markets and anxious capitals. This critical corridor is now the center of a profound dispute over whether international law restrains global powers or merely serves them when convenient. The modern conflict erupted when Washington violated the June memorandum of understanding, which had quieted these waters by implicitly recognizing Iran and Oman as the sole sovereign administrators of the passage. Because the strait narrows to just twenty-one miles, all transiting vessels must sail directly through these local territorial waters. Highlighting this geography, legal experts writing for Universiteit Leiden point out that because the United States has never ratified the Law of the Sea treaty, Washington lacks any standing to dictate rules here. Ultimately, this legal and geographical reality leaves the two coastal nations as the sole legitimate authorities over these waters.

Economic Tribute: The Myth of Global Security Fees

Donald Trump’s aggressive proposal to levy a unilateral twenty percent tariff on passing ships represents a severe violation of sovereign rights. International law is clear: no distant country has the right to extract economic tribute from a strategic waterway located thousands of miles away from its own borders. Indeed, the 1958 Geneva Convention explicitly prohibits charging fees for mere transit, meaning Trump has no basis to claim protection fees under the guise of global security. This imperial overreach prompts Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to mockingly point out that if anyone deserves compensation for securing these waters, it should be those who actually live beside them.

Historical Fractures: A Legacy of Intervention and Coups

The current escalation is merely the latest chapter in a long history of American hostility designed to oppress the Iranian people. This pattern of interference began in 1953 when the Central Intelligence Agency and British intelligence services orchestrated a coup that overthrew Iran’s democratically elected Prime Minister, Mohammad Mossadegh. According to historical records published by the National Security Archive, this covert operation destroyed a thriving secular democracy to restore an absolute monarchy under the Shah. This coup ensured that Western conglomerates maintained control over Iranian oil at the expense of local self-determination, permanently shattering trust between the two nations.

Selective Morality: The Cold Logic of Containment

Following the 1979 revolution, Washington shifted its strategy from covert manipulation to a campaign of relentless economic and military strangulation. The United States quickly imposed sweeping economic sanctions designed to cripple the domestic economy and force a regime change. This pressure peaked during the Iran-Iraq War, when the American government supported Saddam Hussein’s administration even as Iraqi forces unleashed chemical weapons against Iranian citizens. For Tehran, this painful history demonstrates how selectively Western powers apply moral language when strategic interests are on the line. Today, that same double standard manifests in Washington's persistent backing of aggressive regional actors, including the state of "Israel," to keep Iran permanently isolated.

Defensive Postures: The Geopolitics of Encirclement

This historical sense of siege directly shapes how Tehran approaches the strategic waters of the Persian Gulf today. With American military forces deeply embedded along its coastline, Iran views the strait not just as a shipping channel, but as the front line of national survival. In this environment, Iranian naval maneuvers are framed not as provocations, but as a direct shield against hostile encirclement. To codify this posture, Tehran relies on the 1993 Law on Marine Areas of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which requires foreign warships to obtain prior authorization before entering its territorial waters. While Western powers protest these rules, Tehran presents them as a routine, necessary exercise of coastal sovereignty to prevent history from repeating itself.

The Global Mirror: Sovereignty in a Power-Driven World

The larger issue is not only who controls the Strait of Hormuz, but what kind of international order survives if power overrides principle. If the strongest states can impose charges and dismiss the rights of coastal nations, then international law becomes conditional and sovereignty becomes purely ornamental. Iran’s defenders argue that the real threat to maritime order is the habit of powerful states treating legal rights as negotiable whenever strategic advantage is at stake. This double standard makes Hormuz a mirror for the global system itself. Ultimately, the crisis raises the question of whether international law still applies equally to all nations, or whether its rules change shape when Western power enters the frame.

The UK government announced the designation on Monday under powers granted by the National Security [State Threats] Act, with Security Minister Angela Eagle claiming the decision was based on alleged IRGC-linked activities involving threats and intimidation on British soil.

During the meeting, Assistant Foreign Minister Alireza Yousefi, who also serves as director general for Western Europe, rejected the accusations against the IRGC as “baseless, irresponsible and inconsistent” with the UK’s international obligations.

Yousefi also criticized comments made by Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood and accused London of continuing to provide refuge to groups that Tehran considers terrorist organizations while simultaneously leveling unfounded accusations against Iran.

Emphasizing the IRGC’s role in safeguarding Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, Yousefi said the force remains a cornerstone of the country’s national defense and warned that any hostile legislation targeting Iran or its institutions would be met with a “firm and reciprocal response.”

In a letter sent on Thursday, Iran's permanent representative to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva, Ali Bahraini, urged the UN human rights chief to take a clear public stance against the continued US strikes, particularly those targeting Iran's southern ports.

Bahraini said the attacks constitute a blatant violation of international law, alleging that they have killed numerous civilians and caused extensive damage to civilian infrastructure and other vital facilities across the country.

Among the sites cited in the letter were sections of the Tehran–Mashhad railway, a drinking water production facility in Dehloran, wheat storage silos in Hoveizeh and Dasht-e Azadegan, fishing vessels in southern Iran, missile strikes near Baqaei Hospital in Ahvaz, and Semnan Airport.

The Iranian envoy also expressed regret that the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights has not publicly condemned the recent US attacks.

Bahraini warned that, at a time when the territorial integrity of a UN member state has been violated and civilians continue to suffer the consequences of military attacks, the absence of a clear, timely, and firm response risks creating the impression that international law and human rights protections are being applied selectively.

The appeal comes amid renewed US military strikes on Iran that have hit civilian areas and critical infrastructure alongside other targets.

Tehran has condemned the attacks as violations of international law and the UN Charter, accusing Washington of escalating regional instability and endangering civilian lives through its continued military operations.

IRGC: US Military Infrastructure Under Fire

Meanwhile, IRGX spokesperson Hossein Mohebi said Iranian operations are currently centered on targeting US military infrastructure, warning Washington against believing it could sustain the current conflict or turn it into a prolonged war of attrition.

"The enemy should not think that it is capable of continuing the current equation of the fighting and turning the war into a war of attrition."

Separately, Iranian army spokesperson Brigadier General Mohammad Akrami Nia said the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until its management is brought under Iran's authority.

He added that reopening the strategic waterway is contingent upon the US complying with the terms of the memorandum of understanding [MoU], ending hostile actions, and recognizing Iranian laws governing the strait.

The statements came as US strikes on southern Iran continue, with Tehran responding by targeting US sites across the region and keeping the Strait of Hormuz closed after Washington's military escalation.

In a related development, Iranian negotiator Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said Tehran is engaged in an "existential war" with the US, while stressing readiness to defend national interests and keep diplomacy open.

Earlier, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Tehran suspended parts of its commitments after US violations, adding that Iran has "no agenda for negotiations" and is focused on defense.

The spokesman for the Mashhad fire department said the blaze erupted at a bitumen workshop serving one of the shrine's construction projects.
